Songs inspired by children’s books

I once had to put together a list of child-friendly songs inspired by children’s books or books studied by children (ie Romeo and Juliet).

Here’s what I came out with.  Leave a comment below if you know of any more.

Romeo and Juliet – Dire Straits
Yurtle the Turtle (Dr Suess) – Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Charlotte Sometime – The Cure
I am the Walrus  (Alice in Wonderland) – The Beatles
Candy Man (Charlie and Chocolate Factory) – Sammy Davis Jnr
Wuthering Heights – Kate Bush
Ramble On  (Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit) – Led Zeppelin
Misty Mountain Hop (Lord of the Rings) – Led Zeppelin
I am the Law (Judge Dredd) – Human League (OK it’s a comic, but I’m having that one).
The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins by Leonard Nimoy
China in Your Hand (Frankenstein) – T’pau
Return to Pooh Corner – Kenny Loggins
Rainbow Connection (Wizard of Oz) – Kermit the Frog
The Wizard (The Hobbit, in particular, Gandalf) – Black Sabbath
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road – Elton John
Xanadu (Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge ) – Olivia Newton-John and ELO
